Secrets of a Black Boy
Premiering in 2009 at the Danforth Music Hall to sold-out audiences and a Dora nomination, Secrets of a Black Boy sparked powerful dialogue around race, police harassment, fatherhood, and relationships— earning praise from critics for its honesty, humour, and heart.
The show's impact was immediate. Youth matinee performances led to three city-wide TDSB school tours, reaching inner-city students across Toronto. Since then, Secrets has toured internationally, playing to full houses at festivals including the National Black Theatre Festival, the D.C. Black Theatre Festival, and Single Carrot Theatre.
