A Black Panther in the
Great White North
Playwright Darren Anthony presents a reading of his new work, A Black Panther in the Great White North.
Based on true events — In 1969, just days before his tragic assassination, Deputy Chairman Fred Hampton of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party is invited to speak at the University of Saskatchewan by a group of student activists. Determined to challenge the racial bias surrounding them, these students bring Hampton's much-feared Black Panther philosophy to the heart of the Great White North.
*Two Night Only- Feb 20th & Feb 21st at 7:00 pm (SHARP): Harbourfront Center. (Toronto)
Goals & Future Partnerships
After three years of development, we believe A Black Panther in the Great White North is ready for a full production. Our goal is to premiere the work in the 2026/27 or 2027/28 theatre season, and we are actively seeking presenting partners who share the vision for this piece.
PLAYINGwithCRAYONS is open to co-production opportunities with theatre companies interested in including the play in their season programming.
We also welcome conversations with organizations and individuals interested in sponsorship and long-term partnership as we continue to expand the life of this project.
Get in touch: If you’re interested in partnering, presenting, or supporting the project, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out at info@playingwithcrayons.com to start the conversation.
